Watch Lindberg Discuss the Concept of Fasting:

Fasting has shown to have immense benefits on wellness and longevity. This has been evident for many, including Wellness Advocate Greg Lindberg.

Lindberg, entrepreneur, philanthropist and author who has become a wellness and longevity advocate, said his life has transformed since he started fasting three years ago.

“Fasting has changed my life physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually,” said Lindberg, who is 53 years old. “Fasting got me off medications, normalized my cholesterol levels, turned my gray hair red again and reduced my fine lines.”

According to National Institutes of Health (NIH), intermittent fasting or prolonged fasting means when a person restricts the intake of solid foods for a certain period of time. Fasting is a practical method for treating some diseases, including type 2 diabetes. People typically fast for a specific time during the day while others fast for a few days or more.

Lindberg said he fasts three to four days a week, while ensuring he stays active and eats a healthy diet during eating periods. During his fast, Lindberg makes sure he exercises and drinks plenty of water.

“Before I started fasting my total cholesterol was 255, much higher than the recommended 200 or less. My LDL cholesterol, the bad one, was 163, which should have been less than 129, and my glucose level was 106,” said Lindberg. “After two years of fasting, my total cholesterol was reduced about 40 points, my LDL was down 30 points, and my glucose was down to 80. My doctors were amazed at what I had done, entirely without medications.”

During this fasting process, Lindberg experienced something called mitochondrial restoration. Scientific data shows that dietary restrictions such as fasting can help repair mitochondrial networks inside cells, a process which can help reverse aging and improve health.

“As we age, our cells have fewer and fewer mitochondria, and those mitochondria are less robust,” said Lindberg. “During the fast, they undergo the process of DNA repair. Older cells are cleared away, making room for healthier cells to grow. While the total number of stem cells in your body stays the same, that pool becomes a healthier and more vibrant one.”

The transformation doesn’t happen overnight. Lindberg said fasting is a long-term commitment. It’s important to tailor fasting to personal preferences and living habits and also ease into the routine to avoid complications or harm your health.

“Achieving this level of fasting took me about three years,” said Lindberg. “It required me to essentially train my body to remain committed and eventually started seeing results.”

Lindberg shared his health and wellness transformation in his latest book 633 Days Inside: Lessons on Life and Leadership. To learn more about Lindberg’s experience with fasting, visit www.greglindberg.com.
