Ways to Keep Exercising During Fasting

Regular physical activity plays an important role in overall health. However, exercising while fasting can have tremendous benefits on people’s wellness and longevity.

That’s why Wellness Advocate Greg Lindberg shares some useful recommendations on how to exercise during intermittent or prolonged fasting and how to continue to commit to it long-term.

Exercising During Fasting

Physical activity during fasting can be difficult, but it’s extremely important. Lindberg says exercising on an empty stomach can help burn up the glucose in the system and convert the body to a triglyceride metabolism.

“Exercise can help eliminate hunger during your fasting cycle,” Lindberg says. “When I’m fasting, I try to do a 90-minute workout, and it helps me tremendously. This physical activity can help your body build strength and gain focus and energy.”

Committing to Exercise During Fasting

Committing to physical activity long-term can be challenging, especially during fasting cycles. But combining exercise with your fasting regimen can have endless benefits on your wellness and longevity.

“Regular exercise along with fasting can help reverse the aging process and keep people younger longer,” says Lindberg.

That’s why it’s important to remain committed and stay on routine. To stay motivated, Lindberg recommends joining a gym, work with a trainer, attend a group class or go for a run outdoors.

“It’s always difficult to find motivation at the start of the workout, but I listen to music, audiobooks or an interesting podcast to keep me going. This helps me stay focused and on task,” says Lindberg.

Exercising Safely During Fasting

Exercising while fasting may work for some people, but it may not be suitable for others. Lindberg recommends pacing the workout during the fasting cycle.

“Start slow and increase intensity as your body allows,” says Lindberg. “Listen to your body and adjust your workouts based on that.”

It’s also important for people to check with their physician and make sure exercise is beneficial for their health.
